Sri-Lankan super star Mahela Jayawardene has become first batsman to score hundred in Masters Champions League. For playing Sagittarius Strikers in the tournament, Jayawardene smashed 124 runs in the 8th match of MCL 2016 against Libra Legends at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

With this brilliant innings from opener, Sagittarius Strikers managed to put 227 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of 3 wickets in 20 overs. Jayawardene hit ball all over the park and smashed 9 big sixes in Sharjah’s cricket stadium. He also hit 10 boundaries in 60 balls that he played during the match.

Strikers batsmen were dominated right from the innings after winning toss and choosing batting first. Openers Adam Gilchrist and Mahela Jayawardene provided 102 runs start in the first 10 overs. Captain Gilchrist was the first batsman to be dismissed in the match as Nicky Boje took exceptional return catch to his own bowling in the 10th over. Gilly made 38 runs in 28 balls.

Mahela Jayawardene stood till the 19th over of match. Ryan Ten Doeschate took his wicket on the sixth ball of 19th over. Strikers set a target of 228 for Libra Legends which Libra failed to chase and whole team managed to score 164 runs in 20 overs for the loss of 7 wickets. Sagittarius Strikers won the match by 63 runs to register their second win in the competition.
