West Indies cricket board has recalled destructive opening batsman Chris Gayle for the only twenty20 match against India on 9 July 2017 here at Sabina Park. Chris Gayle replaced Lendl Simmons in the Windies T20I squad for one off 20-20 game on Sunday.
Chris Gayle is the most successful batsman for West Indies in T20 cricket. He has scored 1519 runs till date for the country at an average of 35.32. Gayle’s also scored 2 T20 centuries. Interesting fact is that it will be first home Twenty20 match for Gayle in Sabina Park.
West Indies cricket chairman selector Courtney Browne said, “We welcome Chris back to the T20 squad. He is the most prolific batsman in this format and will add value to our team at the top of the order. He will get the chance to play on his home ground and against a top-quality Indian team.”
Left-handed batting sensation Gayle played his last international match in ICC World T20 2016 when Windies met England in the final. Fast bowler Jason Holder will not be a part of the squad and he’s rested. Pollard and Narine are also named in the 13-men West Indies roster.
