Rising Pune Supergiant 2017 Squad

Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) is a professional T20 cricket team that competes in Indian Premier League. Team represents Maharashtra state’s Pune city in the tournament. RPS was introduced as a replacement of one of the suspended teams Chennai Super Kings or Rajasthan Royals for two years. Pune team will also be abbreviated as “RPSG” to represent RP Sanjiv Goenka Group which owns the Pune franchise.

Team played first ever IPLT20 in 2016 and set to compete in 2017 Indian Premier League. On 18 January 2016, team owner Mr. Sanjiv Goenka unveiled the name of team in Kolkata. He also mentioned that Raghu Iyer would be the CEO of Rising Pune Supergiant. Goenka also named Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the captain of RPSG team.

Former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming was appointed as the head coach of Supergiant. Fleming was the coach of Chennai team. Pune team took a total of 5 players from Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals in the players draft on 15 December. They picked MS Dhoni, Ajinkya Rahane, Steve Smith, Faf du Plessis and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni led RPS in their first seaon of IPLT20. Team didn’t perform well in the season and were placed in the bottom of points table.

RPS 2017 Squad, Players List

MS Dhoni stepped down as the skipper of side. Australian captain Steve Smith to lead Rising Pune Supergiant in the 2017 edition of Vivo Indian Premier League. RPS bought biggest purchase of 2017 IPL auction as they bought England all-rounder Ben Stokes for 14.5 Crore INR.
