The Format
For the second time, the tournament features 16 teams. Ten full ICC members qualified automatically, joined by six associate members, Oman the only team making its World T20 debut. The six associate teams plus the two lowest ranked full members – Bangladesh and Zimbabwe – are split into two groups of four, with the two winners advancing to the Super 10s.
There they will join one of two groups of five filled by full member sides. This stage of the tournament begins on Tuesday 15th March, with two teams ultimately advancing from each group through to the semi-finals, the winners competing in the final at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday 3rd April.
