Delhi Daredevils have got “Gabbar” for the IPL 2019 as they get back Shikhar Dhawan in their squad for the upcoming season. Sunrisers Hyderabad traded their former captain and opening batsman Dhawan to get Vijay Shankar, Shahbaz Nadeem and Abhishek Sharma in return.
“We are thrilled at the prospect of having Shikhar turn up in DD colours for the next season of the IPL. Shikhar has had a hugely successful IPL career and will be an invaluable addition to team DD with the wealth of experience he brings. The Delhi fans love seeing their local boys in action and we’re sure they will get lots to cheer for this season with players of Shikhar’s caliber in the team,” Delhi said in a release.
Earlier there were reports that Dhawan wasn’t happy with the amount he’s paid for playing in Hyderabad team. Hence he’s taken decision to leave the franchise and was in talks with Mumbai, Punjab and Delhi. Finally Daredevils acquired him and he’d be opening for DD in the 12th edition of Indian Premier League.
“The franchise has made the decision to trade Shikhar as they feel it is best for both parties. Sunrisers value the great contribution that Shikhar has made over the years, and saddened that due to financial reasons, he feels it’s time to move on,” SRH said in a release.
Shikhar Dhawan played inaugural edition of Indian Premier League in 2008 and he was associated with Sunrisers Hyderabad as opening batsman since 2013. SRH traded their leading runs scorer ahead of players auction. Shikhar made 2768 runs for Hyderabad in played 91 games.
