Cricket Australia have revealed 17 members squad for T20I home series against India beginning from 26 January, 2016. Australia have announced a strong team for the three twenty20 matches against Men in Blue. As usual Aaron Finch is appointed the skipper of side. Veteran fast bowler Shaun Tait is returning to the Aussie side after a long time.
On Tait’s selection, selector Marsh said, “Shaun Tait returns on the basis that he is the quickest bowler going around in Australia at the moment and he offers us that explosive option if we choose to use it.”
The biggest inclusion in Australian T20 team is of Chris Lynn who has been performing really well in the ongoing domestic Big Bash League tournament. Recently in a BBL|05 match against Melbourne Stars, he smashed 5 sixes in an over.
Test cricket’s regular spinner Nathan lyon is also got place in the 17-man national team for T20s against India. Lyon has been performing well in domestic cricket and Big Bash league. This enforced selectors to pick him in the squad for getting prepared for ICC World T20 in March-April in India.
Selector Rod Marsh said, “We’re probably looking to see how he goes and it is an audition for him re India, I guess. He’s got such a wonderful record in Test cricket, we didn’t want to jeopardise that in any way, shape or form.”
“He’s been a terrific bowler for us in Test match cricket and we certainly didn’t want to play him in a few odd one-day games or an odd T20 here or there, and for him to start bowling flat and losing that terrific rhythm that he’s now got.”
It seems that big bash league performance has paid good results for players as uncapped cricketers Travis Head, Andrew Tye and Scott Boland are named in the Aussie squad. The biggest name who couldn’t make it to the national team for t20s, is George Bailey who has been in destroying form for Australian in ODIs against India in the current series and also batted extremely well in BBL.
“Chris Lynn, Travis Head and Andrew Tye have made irresistible cases for inclusion off the back of individual excellence in the KFC BBL and we are delighted to offer them the opportunity to push their claims for inclusion in the ICC World Twenty20,” Marsh said.
